Contour acquisition on moving workpieces needs to associate each observation with a workpiece, position and capture conditions. This is a proposed development workflow, not a report of completed sensor integration or motion testing. Count sampling control and data reception separately. A continuous display does not establish valid contours at every expected position.
Define how sampling positions are determined
With fixed time sampling, spatial spacing changes with motion speed. Only for constant speed and a stable actual acquisition frequency does delta_y = v / f describe spacing along the direction of travel. It is not a dimensional-error formula. Acquisition using a mechanical-motion encoder still requires checks of encoder resolution, signals, direction and mechanical slip; configured spacing alone does not establish actual coverage.
Modules and records
| Module | Proposed function | Verification target |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger and position input | Receive time, encoder or external events | Signals, direction, gating and states |
| Device acquisition | Generate observations in supported modes | Device counters and rejection or loss indications |
| Host reception | Parse contours, sequence, time and position fields | Received count, completeness and errors |
| Quality checks | Identify valid coverage and fault states | Invalid points, gaps and review reasons |
| Workpiece association | Group observations by workpiece and section | Workpiece identifier, boundaries and missing positions |
| Output and storage | Transfer contours, dimensions and validity | Interfaces, buffer policy and traceability |
Test workload and faults separately
Triggers exceeding the device's current acquisition capability may not produce every expected observation. See the LMI trigger documentation for its modes and conditions. Establish actual capability for the selected model, settings and tests. Check acceleration, reversal, stopping, restarting and transport failures separately, and agree when to report invalid data, reacquire or notify the business system.
Handover and acceptance
Agree on image-capture adapters, settings, field descriptions, counter definitions, sample data and reproduction steps in the contract. Check valid coverage against agreed workpieces and reference positions, then evaluate dimensions, sustained operation and business interfaces. List unavailable device counters or timestamps as evidence gaps. Host-generated fields must not be presented as measured device records.
