Industrial vision procurement should follow the actual deliverables. Purchasing a camera, commissioning an algorithm and commissioning an inspection system involve different equipment, software and integration responsibilities. Identify existing assets and the parts to be developed before defining the scope.
Four types of deliverables
| Object | Inputs to define | Possible deliverables | Acceptance focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Imaging and camera equipment | Parts, field of view, motion, installation and available illumination | Specified equipment, settings and connection information | Suitability of raw images for the task |
| Acquisition and interfaces | Models, connections, protocols, drivers and target system | Drivers, acquisition software, interface documentation and logs | Image capture, completeness, timing and recovery |
| Algorithms and applications | Raw samples, labels, rules and computing platform | Components, configuration, examples and evaluation records | Results on agreed samples, resource use and errors |
| System integration | The above inputs plus mechanical, electrical and site interfaces | A prototype, software and engineering files within the agreed scope | End-to-end functions, operating conditions and handover |
This table organizes project scope. Actual files and equipment are agreed for each project. Complete-system development also needs defined component sources, purchasing responsibilities and integration tasks. An algorithm list alone does not establish readiness to deliver a complete device.
Define work from existing assets
For an existing camera, provide its model, firmware, raw images, SDK and operating platform to assess reuse. For an existing algorithm, provide preprocessing, inputs and outputs, dependencies, licensing and reference results. For an existing machine, also provide interface lists, control sequences, installation conditions and fault records. Missing inputs should be resolved through document review and a limited validation before defining development work.
Connect procurement with acceptance
For each task, identify the input owner, implementer, output and acceptance method. For example, the camera supplier supplies equipment and its SDK; acquisition software provides frame identifiers and error states; the algorithm provides defined results; and the integrator commissions the station. Agree how invalid frames, disconnections, unavailable results and missing downstream acknowledgements are handled.
Performance requirements need test conditions. Record resolution, frame rate, sample coverage, cycle time and continuous operation duration separately. Component specifications and measured system results use their respective definitions. Quote development, equipment, prototypes, integration, testing and change scope separately.
Information for project assessment
Provide the device purpose, existing cameras and software, raw images or video, target system, site interfaces, required files and acceptance conditions. List unknown parameters as items to assess so that assessment, development and integration can be scoped.
