Advertised processor capacity alone cannot be converted directly into supported video streams. Input modes, decoding, models, backends, memory transfers and concurrent business tasks jointly constrain capacity. Use complete-chain testing on the target configuration for the final conclusion.
Inputs needed for assessment
| Input | Required details |
|---|---|
| Video | Streams, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and network conditions |
| Model | Version, input dimensions, numerical format, operators and preprocessing and postprocessing |
| Platform | Processor, memory, OS, driver, backend, power and cooling |
| Concurrent tasks | Display, storage, recording, tracking, interfaces and logs |
| Acceptance | Per-stream valid results, latency, intentional sampling and duration |
What an isolated model benchmark provides
A model benchmark can locate inference bottlenecks or compare implementations under the same conditions. It generally does not include all decoding, transfers, display, storage and interface work in the complete application, so it does not directly establish system stream counts. Distinguish throughput from individual-task latency.
Can capacity be estimated first
With explicit inputs and assumptions, provide an engineering estimate pending verification and a pilot plan. Identify assumptions, excluded functions and testing steps. Do not describe an estimate as tested concurrent capacity. Reassess it when models, video modes or storage policies change.
Establishing a deliverable conclusion
Increase channels gradually on specified equipment and record reception, valid processing, errors and latency for each stream under the intended concurrent workload. Combine resource, temperature and sustained-operation checks to identify an acceptable configuration. Keep logs and versions, and mark untested scale as pending verification.
