Multi-stream edge video needs coordinated channel states, valid frames, processing queues and application results. The following is a system design method, not a capacity or stability test result for a specified device. Verify video-channel count and performance using the target hardware, video and models.
Data and control paths
Video source → connection and decoding → frame buffers and quality checks → preprocessing and inference scheduling → postprocessing and rules → result interfaces, display or recording. Manage configuration and channel controls separately, with states and errors traceable to sources and versions.
| Module | Scope | Possible deliverables |
|---|---|---|
| Channel management | Registration, connection, reconnection and states | Configuration, state machine and logs |
| Frame data | Source, time, format, buffers and quality | Structures, lifetimes and errors |
| Scheduling | Concurrency, queues, resources and timeouts | Scheduling configuration and per-channel counters |
| Results | Association with source frames, interfaces and acknowledgements | Business fields, examples and error handling |
| Monitoring | Resources, events, versions and faults | Monitoring fields and reproduction records |
Select policies for the business need
Live observation may permit stale frames to be discarded. Complete recording requires separate reception and storage checks. When a model need not process every input frame, define sampling and result-update rules. Report explicit states for full queues, disconnected channels or unavailable models so old results are not displayed as new ones.
Capacity and fair service
Increase channels and concurrent work gradually. Record reception, processing, discards, errors and latency for each channel. Aggregate throughput does not replace per-channel checks. During sustained operation, also examine resource growth, storage changes, reconnection and configuration changes. Keep unfinished checks marked as unverified.
Acceptance and handover
Define acceptance using input video, model versions, hardware, backends, power and cooling, storage policies and duration. Deliverables may include configuration, APIs, agreed source code, build instructions, logs and test reports. Handle third-party runtime libraries under their licences.
