Multi-brand camera integration aims to give applications defined image capture, configuration and status interfaces. Inclusion of a device model depends on its SDK, protocol, system and licence conditions. Compatibility requires separate verification for each device model and version. This article describes a proposed design and reports no compatibility test results.
Design components
Device and version inventory → vendor SDK or protocol adapter → common image capture and parameter interfaces → applications and configuration tools. Expose device-specific functions through defined extensions. The common layer reports actual capabilities rather than forcing every device into an identical feature set.
| Module | Development scope | Deliverables and verification |
|---|---|---|
| Device registration | Model, firmware, interface, SDK and platform combination | Version inventory and device-identification records |
| Vendor adapter | Enumeration, connection, configuration, image capture and closure | Adapter code, examples and vendor error mapping |
| Common interface | Parameters, frame structures, states and buffer rules | API documentation and capability queries |
| Configuration tool | Supported settings, ranges and current state | UI, import and export, and validation records |
| Compatibility verification | Normal operation, boundaries and recovery | Test status for each model and version |
Minimum compatibility-matrix fields
Record the target device, hardware and firmware, SDK, OS, architecture, driver, operating mode, required features, test results and known limits. Mark untested combinations as pending verification. Do not substitute an entire product-series claim for actual test coverage.
Integrate in stages
Validate the common interface using a representative device with complete documentation. Then add devices with different formats, controls or state constraints to check that the model represents the differences. Define application behaviour when a capability is unsupported. Include device and version information in configuration files so parameters from an old device are not written directly to a replacement.
For connection failures or invalid frames, record the device, SDK, settings, state transitions and original errors. Agree whether recovery is automatic, which settings must be reapplied and when the application is notified according to device capabilities and business needs.
Inputs and handover
Provide explicit model lists, devices, SDKs, documentation, licences, the target system, raw images and application interfaces. Scope the common API, vendor adapters, examples, configuration tools, build instructions, test matrix and third-party components separately. Treat additional models or SDK upgrades as version changes with appropriate regression testing.
